Grace M. Merta, 79, died Feb. 11, 2023. She was born in Glassport, daughter of the late John and Gabriella (Kazmierowski) Merta. Grace is survived by her sister Dolores (Robert) Sago of Corvallis, MT; nephews Kevin Beckovich and Edward Sago; nieces Colleen (Thomas) Smithyman and Becky Sago; great niece and nephews Aidan, Jordan, and Kaleb. She was preceded in death by sister Margaret (Michael) Beckovich and niece Roberta Sago. Grace was a retired benefits specialist for Copperweld and was a member of Sts. Joachim and Anne Parish. She volunteered regularly at Queen of the Rosary Church, helping with the fish fry and the weekly money count. She also collected paper for the church’s fundraiser through the Abitibi Paper Recycling program. Grace’s hobbies over the years ranged from photography to creative rubber stamping. She loved exploring new places, learning new things, and meeting new people. In her 60s, Grace took computer classes at Community College of Allegheny County. She used those skills, mainly in Photoshop, to create a variety of printed items, such as bookmarks and commemorative albums, that preserved memories for friends, family, and acquaintances. She also supported Glassport City Council by photographing events and creating fliers to promote those events. Grace was always looking for ways she could use her energy and knowledge to help others. That kindness will be her legacy. Friends and family will be received at Wojciechowski Funeral Home, Glassport, on Saturday, February 18, from 10:00 am to Noon at which time a funeral blessing will be held with Father Wagner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor,1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
